Respite is here to provide an occasional break for families in order to relieve some of the responsibilities that full-time care-giving brings.
The goal of the respite caregiver is to provide the family caregiver(s) a break from their responsibilities and to improve their well-being and the well-being of the entire family. Respite allows the caregiver to take a moment, rest and enables them to focus on their own needs. Respite also allows the individual with I/DD the opportunity to engage in social activities, recreation, and other positive interactions outside the family and school environment that will promote independence and offer friendships and involvement in the community.
Respite may also be provided on an emergency basis.
